This week in Room 2

Spring is always a fun time in kindergarten.  The young scholars have their routines down, most have mastered the art of basic kindergarten writing, and we focus on continuing to improve our literacy and math skills.

Today we welcomed Olivia to our classroom.  The students were very helpful and friendly throughout the day.

This week we are thrilled to have an artist in residence in the classroom.  We will be learning West African Dance with Habiba.  She will be in the classroom on Tuesday and Wednesday mornings.

Next Thursday, April 8, is our annual Run for the Arts.  This is our annual fundraiser for arts in school.  Money raised is used to bring artists such as Bernie Duffy and Habiba as well as for artistic assemblies.  Your child brought home a packet before break.  Please return the packet on Thursday the 8th.

Also Friday, April 9th is a teacher planning day.  There is no school for students.

Here are some details about our week:

New words: yellow, blue, green
Writing: Spring Break and more
Math: Adding within five, subtraction

Late Start tomorrow

Don't forget -- tomorrow (Wednesday) is a late start -- bells, buses and everything should run two hours behind schedule.

I look forward to seeing everyone at 9:55 tomorrow.

Third Grade Musical

We had a great time at the 3rd Grade Musical "The Green Machine Team" which focused on sustainability.  Ask your child what they enjoyed and what they learned from the musical!

This week in kindergarten

This week looks to be fairly normal and straightforward.

Today we spent the morning creating sea-creature story problems.   We cut out animals, wrote stories and put together posters for our problems.

On Thursday we plan to attend the 3rd grade musical.

We remain a little low on snacks -- think of us as you shop!

Next Wednesday, March 18th is a late start Wednesday.  Spring break begins March 23rd.  This is the last week of Project 2nd Wind, PPS' annual food drive. Send your child with a can or box of food!

New Letters Ee (week 2)

Three weekend thoughts

1) think of us as you are shopping -- our snack supply is dwindling.

2) Have your child tell you the story of Goldilocks and the Three Bears.  We have read many versions over the past week.  The young scholars have also been enjoying Dr.Seuss books (on a side Dr. Seuss note, Hop on Pop, is wonderful first "real" reader.  For all three of my kids, this was the first book they really read).

3) Have your child get lots of sleep this weekend.  Mondays are super-hard in Room 2, and we lose an hour this weekend.
