Teacher Planning Day

I have had a productive planning day, despite trials and tribulations such as being locked out in the early morning, and having no power for several hours later in the morning.

You can let your student know that they will be at a new table and have a new spot on the carpet, beginning Monday.

Students will bring home report cards on Friday!

Have a wonderful and restful weekend!

This week in Room 2

Here are some details about our week.

There is NO SCHOOL on Friday due to the Teacher Planning Day.  I will be here, focused on report cards.  These should come home next Friday, the 6th of February.

We celebrated Australia Day this morning.  We learned about Australia and made Aboriginal dot art.  Thank you to Vicki Reade for doing this!

Tomorrow is our Dinosaur Class with OMSI from noon to 1:00.  We could use a volunteer for this.

Here are themes for the week.

New Words: they, you, of (Week 2)

Another Substitute today

Barbara Goldberg, yesterday's substitute (and former Room 2 kindergarten and first grade teacher), reports that we had a good day yesterday.

My fever seems to have broken, and I hope to be back on Friday.  Barbara Goldberg had other obligations today and cannot be here.  We will have Mr. Shnacky to guide us through our day today.

This week in kindergarten

We have another long week this week before two short weeks.  Be aware that there is no school on Monday the 19th (MLK Day), a late start on Wednesday the 21st, and no school on Friday the 30th (teacher planning day).

Our kids were very tired today.  Mondays seem especially hard this year -- I'm not sure why.

Here are some themes for the week...

Writing -- details, details, details (and "challenge paper")
Theme Book -- Farfalina and Marcel
New letters --Ff
New words -- see, look (week 2)
Comprehension -- plot
Math - addition, odd and even, teen numbers
Art with Ms. Rodhe -- Frida Kahlo
Science with Ms. Forst: solids and liquids
Star of the week -- Valeria
New song -- I'm an Old Cowhand from the Rio Grande

This week in kindergarten

I hope everyone had a wonderful  break!  I am looking forward to a productive and fun winter term!

Resolve to volunteer -- We have loved having volunteers in the classroom.  I hope to have a new volunteer sign up sheet on the wall very soon.  Our days are always better when there are volunteers!

Snacks -- I meant to put this out before break, but we are short on snacks.  Please think of us as you shop.

Note these dates:

This week's themes --
Theme Book: See How We Grow
New Letters: Dd, Kk
