This week in kindergarten

This week looks to be fairly normal and straightforward.

Today we spent the morning creating sea-creature story problems.   We cut out animals, wrote stories and put together posters for our problems.

On Thursday we plan to attend the 3rd grade musical.

We remain a little low on snacks -- think of us as you shop!

Next Wednesday, March 18th is a late start Wednesday.  Spring break begins March 23rd.  This is the last week of Project 2nd Wind, PPS' annual food drive. Send your child with a can or box of food!

Three weekend thoughts

1) think of us as you are shopping -- our snack supply is dwindling.

2) Have your child tell you the story of Goldilocks and the Three Bears.  We have read many versions over the past week.  The young scholars have also been enjoying Dr.Seuss books (on a side Dr. Seuss note, Hop on Pop, is wonderful first "real" reader.  For all three of my kids, this was the first book they really read).

3) Have your child get lots of sleep this weekend.  Mondays are super-hard in Room 2, and we lose an hour this weekend.

This Week in Kindergarten

We had a great 100th day of kindergarten yesterday.  We went to the basketball court and counted 100 students and did 100 exercises.  After that we toured each kindergarten classroom to look at everyone's 100 collection.  We ended the morning by making our 100 crowns.

This is also the week of our Culture Fair.  Yesterday afternoon J.J., a PSU student, came by to talk about South Korea.  We heard a Korean folk-tale and played a traditional Korean game.  On Friday we will be learning about Columbia.

We have our OMSI -- Gollyology assembly on Wednesday.

I will be gone on Thursday (kindergarten conference in Eugene) and Friday (family obligation).  Barbara Goldberg will be substituting for me.

Here are some themes for the week:

Theme Book: Goldilocks and the Three Bears
Chapter Book: Elmer and the Dragon
New Letter: G/g
Words: one, two, three, four, five
Comprehension skill: Character.
Math: Teen numbers, story problems
Art in Room 3 & 4: water color chameleons, artist study: Ed Young
